Monte Pizzoc – Into the Woods

Monte Pizzoc forest explored by motorcycle

The right place to get in touch with the explorer that is in any of us, and just few minutes from the city!

In this article you will find the most adventurous way to reach the top of Mount Pizzoc with your maxienduro motorcycle. Of course, if you want to stuck in the mud of the forest there are other paths to be explored but, if you are looking for this, I suggest you to go there with some friends and find your own way through the woods (Be sure to check if you can legally practice it!).

The raise will take you about 1 hours (It depends on how much you will enjoy the opportunities to explore, have a walk in the woods, take some pictures and enjoy the silence of the forest) and will stard from Fregona. I highly recommend to download the GPX track that you will find later on this article if you want to follow this path. (We all know that Google Maps is not the perfect match for off-road riders!)

I personally found in OSMAND a reliable and user friendly instrument for my off-road rides!

It requires a little bit of time (it took me few hours and two-three rides) to get confidence with it but I assure you it worth your time.

While “The wayback” is quite for every off-road rider, “The Climb” to Monte Pizzoc is quite difficult, so if you are not sure about the track make a track inspection on foot, or reach the top of the mount by “Via Cansiglio” enjoying your on-road tour in the woods.

The Climb

The first 7km segment of the trail, called “la strada del Santo” (literally: the street of the Saint) has a quite steep incline (average of about 15%). It is a really tiny and rocky path that districates into the forest. It can be really insidious for bigger bikes and not really expert riders so think twice before go into it!

When you will arrive to “Casa forestale Cadolten” (800 mt higher) the track will open up in the beautiful woods of the “Cansiglio“. The silence of these place, and the numerous paths that dive deeply in the forest, will tease the explorer that is in you but unfortunately (do not forget you are passing through a nature reserve), they are not practicable with our bikes.

Follow the asphalt road and be welocome from the peculiar landscapes of the mountain, enjoy the winding road and get to parking at the top of the mountain where an astonishing 360° panorama awaits you.

Monte Pizzoc

If you are looking for a magical place to eat and you are not sated with adventure I suggest you to take the detour on the left just before the parking, get to the “Rifugio Città di Vittorio Veneto” (perfect place to refresh yourself enjoying the view from the terrace) and continue for other 500 mt the graveled path that will lead you to “Agriturismo le Crode“.

You will definitely love the intimate and welcoming atmosphere of this tiny lodge and the curiosity of its guardian dog “Sasha”. The place has a really limited space so be sure to book yours before you get there (expecially at the weekends or holidays).

When you’ll be satisfied of your staying, you can go back following the paved road untill it comes to Via Cansiglio where you can choose how to proceed your adventure.

The Wayback

The wayback that I am going to share with you is an alternative to the main asphalt road (very enjoyable for touring motorcyclists) that will take you back to the valley through a complex net of narrow streets that dive in the beautiful Cansiglio forest.

In the gpx track I only suggest you my favourite one that matches off and on-road streets, but here the alternative roads are endless so, go out and find yours!
